Early Reader Program

We are excited about our early reading program. Sproutlets offers your child a creative and enjoyable reading experience with lifelong benefits.

An Introduction to books begins at the age of 6 weeks to 4 months. Between the ages of 4 months to 8 months, children are more skillful with eye/hand coordination, therefore at this stage of the program an emphasis is placed on colors. Between the age of 8 months to 12 months perception skills such as visual memory and visual discrimination, which help babies make sense of their exciting new world, start to develop. At this age we introduce the ‘Your Baby Can Read Program’, by Dr. Robert Titzer. This program takes a multi-sensory approach to learning how to read at an early age.

Upon progress in our early reading program and as your child gets older other programs are introduced and used until age 5. These programs are the “Star Fall” and “Scholastic Early Reading First” program. The “Star Fall program is introduced along with our computer technology class. Phonemic awareness and systematic phonics are present in this program.

For ages 3 to 5 years, our three main focal points of reading are phonics, reading comprehension, and fluency. “ Scholastic Early Reading First” program is one of our favorite choices in emphasizing these points. This program continues to teach important phonics and comprehension skills required to become a fluent reader.

Various genres of children literature such as fiction/non-fiction, comics, plays, myths, folk tales, and fables are read and acted out.

All these skills will help your child become a more successful and highly motivated student. All three programs build on vocabulary and keep the children motivated!
